Land Degradation and Poverty
Land Degradation and Poverty
Jessica Bailey

Land degradation is a problem that is battled all over the world but majorly impacts the poor, more rural places and people from low to middle income countries. Land degradation is linked to food insecurity, is vulnerable to climate change as well as poverty. Since the 1980s, scientists have studied certain data that is used to determine the spatial distribution of populations on degrading land. These studies have estimated that over 1.5 billion people are affected by land degradation, majority being the rural poor population. The overall poverty in developing countries may be influenced by the amount of rural populations that are degrading, instead of improving, agricultural land.
This is very interesting information Jessica. The correlation and connection between these things is but at the same time is not expected. The fact that there are over a billion people affected by this land degradation means this problem is serious enough. The food insecurity and poverty are things that need to be addressed in a positive way.
