Up to 48 species saved from extinction through conservation efforts
Since 1993 conservation efforts have been making efforts to protect and save species from extinction. These efforts have helped with several species of bird and mammals within the last 28 years. A lot of the species saved have been reintroduced through zoos. Research in these years have found that up to 32 birds and 17 mammals have been saved from extinction. An example for a close call for extinction of birds is Puerto Rican Amazon, which is a small parrot that came down to 13 left in the wild in 1975. For mammals Przewalski’s horses Became extinct in the wild during the 1960s, since then Zoo’s and preserves have released over 700 back into the wild.
