Sea Level Rising

The sea level has risen 8-9 inches since 1880, in 2020 it rose 3.6 inches since 1993. This is the highest increase recorded. The increase in sea level causes many problems being that 40% of the population lives in coastal cities. Sea level directly effects flooding, seashore erosion, and increase of hazards caused by storms. Rising sea levels causes more frequent nuisance flooding which is very detrimental to cities and infrastructures. Higher flooding causes the mixture between freshwater and saltwater leading to dangerous impacts on wildlife. The cause of the rising sea levels has been observed to be from the melting of glaciers and ice sheets (a result of the global warming).

  1. Good post, I find it really scary that the sea levels are rising. The thing that scares me the most about it is that we only have a limited amount of control over it if we do not solve the problem. Water can easily become unpredictable and uncontrollable.

  2. I knew sea level rising was occurring and was an environmental issue. I had no idea the increase had been happening so rapidly. To a lot of people 8-9 inches might not seem like much but think about how many gallons of water it would take to fill a small pool 8-9 inches , on a massive scale like the ocean this is very rapid and 8-9 inches is a tons of gallons of water. There is already more water than land and rising sea levels will continue to take over more and more land space. Causing people to flood out of their houses and residential space.
