Gas exchanged Mercury Into the sea

For many years the ocean has been treated as a never ending vast body of water. When in reality it’s much more than that. It’s a home, resource, and beauty. How beautiful is something that’s become trashed and poisoned. When it comes to gases exchanged into the sea especially Mercury, they poison the life that lives below. In turn destroying what the ocean is meant for.
While this is a problem, for the most part only half of the Mercury in the sea originated from perception or the sky. While the other half comes from gaseous Mercury uptake. Mercury was once in thermometers. It has been ruled for many years unsafe and they are not made anymore. If we feel the need to prevent others from using Mercury in unsafe ways or places then why would we put it into the sky to go to the ocean.
There’s things such plots of land where Mercury can be safely sequestered in soils and poses less of a risk to humans. Would that not be a better way of discarding this material back into the Earth. I understand doing something and saying something are completely different but remember to keep an eye out next time you see a thermometer with some Mercury in it.
