Many people enjoy carving pumpkins and consuming a lot of pumpkin themed things during the Holliday season, but what effect do these spooky-faced fruits have on our environment? According to the world economic forum, 10 million pumpkins are harvested each year in the UK, and out of those, 95% are thrown in the garbage. These pumpkins that end up in the garbage will then end up in a landfill and decompose to emit methane, which is even more detrimental than Carbon Dioxide is.
Yes, pumpkins are fun to carve and use as decorations, but according to the article, they aren’t good for the environment in the long run. We need to make use of these pumpkins through food consumption and other things, rather than throwing out the pumpkins after Halloween. Then, maybe we will be better off, while still getting our use of them.

Yes, it bothers me to see all these trashed. I actually eat pumpkin, but I'd at least compost the old ones in a field...
