How pollution affects POC’s
https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/21/us/air-quality-pollution-racism-trnd-wellness/index.html
Climate change is becoming an increasing problem for everyone but certain populations are more at risk than others. People of color (POC’s) have an increased risk of respiratory disease from pollution than white identifying people. During COVID this increased risk really showed and a majority of the people passing away and hospitalized were POC’s. This pollution can lead to issues with asthma and in more serious cases lung cancer. “The report found that they are 61% more likely than White people to live in a county with a failing grade for at least one pollutant. They are also three times more likely to live in a county that failed all three air quality grades” (CNN). This is too ridiculous to ignore and not help.
Great response Julius. I never knew about this and this is a very big deal that needs to be looked at. You did a great job explaining everything and you also used a great quote there at the end. I wonder exactly why this is? This is just another awful thing that climate change is doing for us. Overall great response and I hope we can make a bigger deal about this issue.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, this was very interesting to me. I wonder why the risks are so lopsided? It might be important to look more into these facts and see what countries failed the air quality tests. I really appreciate how you put facts behind the statements in your post.
