Summery and Response:
The Tropical Storm Nicholas is a current storm that is currently in Texas and on its way to Louisiana. The tropical storm consists of high wind speeds and heavy rain fall. It was classified as a hurricane, but it was soon down graded to a tropical storm. Tropical Storm Nicholas has mostly impacted the coastal areas of Texas, including the town of Houston. The New York Times says that Houston has experienced winds up to 45 MPH and heavy rainfall. This has lead to a lot of flooding and has caused a lot of damage to peoples houses and land. Tim Cady, a meteorologist in Houston, goes on to state that the storm is heading towards Louisiana, but the storm should get weaker the more it moves inland. Overall the Tropical Storm Nicholas has already damaged a lot of land. The article goes on to talk about how the earth will experience more heavy storms like this due to the global warming issue. We saw a lot about this in the documentary Before the Flood, that we watched in class last week. With more storms like this in the future, it will only damage more land, more peoples lives, and more of the environment.

Your blog is good. I haven't been close to or in the vicinity of a hurricane, but I've heard they are hell. I do like learning about natural disasters and I like watching them too. I do think global warming and climate change is a real thing so we need to do something to help that pronto.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that i really like about this was the information you gave. Me personality, i love learning about natural disasters and different types of tropical storms too. But now reading and thinking this relates to global warming really well. I haven’t thought about it until i read this but what do you think are some ways us people can do to stop this problem from happening so the weather doesn’t get as bad with the change of global warming?

ReplyDeleteTropical storms are definitely on the raise. I am personally from North Carolina and still have family there. The storms have been getting worse and worse over the years as well as just occurring more frequently. Places like Texas have really got it bad they are having problems on top of problems from the hurricanes to freezing temps causing wateramain problems. Before I felt like the storms and the severity of them were more predictable and people were able to prepare or leave before disaster hit. I also think storms are traveling further. Instead of a hurricane hitting one state and maybe running into part of another. The tropical storms are going through and affecting whole regions of the US and can usually affect up to 3 if not more states.
